The New American Plate

The American Institute for Cancer Research has an alternative way to picture a good diet. The DC Raw Food Meet-up.

This is a great group to socialize with. They gather once a month to share food, information, and socialize. You should absolutely try to attend at least once. The food is exquisite, the people are fun and the atmosphere is casual. You do have to bring a dish to share and there is a charge of $3 to help pay for the venue. If you have never seen the variety of ways to "eat raw", you will be enchanted by people's creativity and inventiveness. An example of raw dishes you can bring: guacamole, bowl of lettuce tomatoes and pineapple slices with mint, olive oil, and lemon juice as a sauce. Fruit salad made with fresh fruit such as peaches, apples, bananas. A bag of fresh organic (washed) fruit will also make a nice addition.
